U4GM Guide to Free Runes in the Diablo 4 PTR
#1

In the Diablo 4 PTR, speak to Mrak near the main Waypoint and select Grant All Runes under Equipment boosts to obtain runes without farming. Instead of collecting Diablo 4 runes through ordinary play, use that boost to start your Talisman setup sooner.

Get the PTR setup from Mrak

The stated PTR window runs from October 27 at 10am PDT to November 3 at 10am PST. The time zone changes during the window, so check the closing time in PST rather than assuming both times use PDT.

Horadric Items are Legendary items whose affixes connect equipped gear to Talisman set bonuses. The seasonal item boost supplies them, saving testing time that would otherwise be spent looking for the required pieces. The supplied schedule does not specify a year, so confirm that this window matches the PTR you intend to enter.

Log into the PTR during the stated window, reach the main Waypoint hub, and speak to Mrak nearby.
Open Equipment boosts, select Grant All Runes, and confirm the purchase. This removes rune collection as a barrier for the test.
At Mrak, claim Grant Seasonal Items (Horadric Items). Keep the resulting items in your inventory while you inspect their affixes.
Find jewelry with the Horadric affix that grants +1 set bonus count. Choose a charm that matches its Talisman set.
Equip the jewelry, place the matching charm in a Talisman slot, and inspect the set counter. The target is an active two-piece bonus.
Add an armor Horadric Item and a weapon Horadric Item with effects relevant to your test, then check that their required set threshold is active.

The two-piece counter is the useful confirmation for the gear setup. Do not rely on the number of charms alone: the jewelry affix contributes the other set count, so one matching charm is enough for the first threshold.

Check the set before testing damage

Matching jewelry and one charm must produce a two-piece Talisman state before you judge effects that require at least two pieces. Read each armor and weapon affix to see which effect depends on that threshold.

If the counter remains at one piece, inspect the jewelry first. Confirm that it has the +1 set bonus count affix and that it matches the charm set. Replace only the piece that does not match, then check the counter again before changing armor or weapons.

A missing armor or weapon effect can be a set-count problem rather than a problem with the item itself. Verify the two-piece counter first, then reread the relevant affix and its activation requirement. Adding a second charm is not the first fix when the intended jewelry and charm should already meet the threshold.

Keep comparisons useful

Set a baseline with matching jewelry, one charm, one armor Horadric Item, and one weapon Horadric Item. Record damage, defense, and resource behavior in the same encounter before replacing anything.

Keep the rune configuration fixed while comparing Horadric Items. Change one item at a time and make sure the two-piece counter remains active after each swap. Changing a rune and a gear item together makes it harder to identify which change affected the result.

Keep useful items sorted by slot so the jewelry, matching charm, armor, and weapon are easy to find. Avoid salvaging the jewelry that supplies the extra set count; losing it can switch off the effects you are trying to measure.

Use Mrak and the seasonal item boost for this setup instead of spending the limited test window at the Merchant of Mystery. The priority is the jewelry affix and matching charm first, followed by armor and weapon effects.

Return to Mrak, claim the boosts, and verify the two-piece counter before running another comparison. If you also plan to buy diablo 4 gear, check the PTR items and their affixes first so you know which slots still need attention.
